Fish Facts

Every autumn across lowa's Driftless Area, brook and brown trout work tirelessly to create and guard their spawning beds, called redds. It's important these areas not be disturbed, as wading through a single redd can crush hundreds of eggs. The next time you're on the stream please take your time to read the water, move slowly, and most importantly, Wade Wisely.

Driftless Flyathon

The Driftless Flyathlon brings the epic combo of fly fishing, trail running, and craft beer to northeastern Iowa. The course consists of a 4.4 mile (mostly flat) trail run, with opportunities to catch rainbow trout, brown trout, and the Iowa native brook trout.

Join us this year on October 6-8th in the Yellow River State Forest, near Harpers Ferry, IA.

The race is sold out this year, but folks are always welcome to enjoy the weekend and hang out with “fishy” people who love to run, fish, and enjoy craft beer!

Big Grove for Good

Giving back to our local community is central to our mission at Big Grove Brewery. We strive to be intentional with our “good giving” and have committed the majority of our charitable efforts to focus on three core categories -- Trees, Trails, & Water: The work to enhance our recreational green spaces, benefiting both our health and well-being and reviving our environment. Equity & Equality: Working towards a diverse and equitable community while being a good human to other humans. Our Backyard: Supporting local organizations that work to make our Johnson County community a better place to live, thrive, and have opportunity.
